North Carolina introduces barbecue-scented lotto tickets

What does money smell like?

The N.C. Education Lottery has an idea of the scent. It smells like smoky barbecue, and it will introduce the smell on Tuesday in Raleigh and Charlotte.

Lottery officials are launching the BBQ Bucks scratch-off game at barbecue restaurants in the respective cities. There will be free ticket giveaways, T-shirts and prizes. In addition to offering a chance for people to win $25,000, the lottery will be sharing details about a "1,000 lbs. of Pork Giveaway" second-chance-drawing and encouraging North Carolinians to join a conversation on social media about which of the state's BBQ styles is best.

Queen City Q is hosting the Charlotte event. In Raleigh, the game unveiling is set for Clyde Cooper's Barbecue.
