North Philadelphia residents evacuated due to gas leak

Five home were evacuated in North Philadelphia due to a gas leak.

James White knows what to do when he smells a gas leak. On Wednesday night, he found himself smack in the middle of one when he got to his home on North Opal Street.

"I'm glad that they responded ASAP," he told FOX 29.

Alberto Reyes knew something was wrong when he walked in his front door and smelled gas. He quickly grabbed his wife and 8-week-old daughter and got out.

"I was kinda nervous more--cause there's so many of us in the house and my infant. I was worried about her," he said.

Reyes says a PGW crew arrived quickly.

"They said an hour and they came in like ten minutes," he said.

PGW crews quickly went to work and shut off gas to the block. They located the leak and started repairs. Neighbors were allow back in while they fixed the gas line.
