Officer-involved shooting in North Philadelphia, 1 critical

Police say one suspect is in the hospital as a result of an officer-involved shooting Saturday night.

Officials say a bike Sergeant and two bike officers were patrolling the 2500 block of Alder Street when the saw a man stadning on the sidewalk with a gun in his hand.

The Seargant allegedly got off his bike and asked the man to drop his weapon. The suspect then started running down an alley.

After a brief pursuit, police say the suspect turned around and pointed the gun at officers.

"At that time the Seargant did discharge his firearm more than one time. It looks like right now four times, but we're still working on that," said Captain Sekou Kinebrew of the Philadelphia Police Department.

Police say the man was shot twice as a result of the discharge. He was struck in his leg and right side.

He has been placed in stable condition at Temple Hospital.

Police recovered the suspect's loaded gun in the alley, which they learned was stolen from Clearfield, PA back in October.
