Officers throw surprise birthday celebration for 9-year-old after no one attended his party

A happenstance meeting between a Grand Rapids police officer and a young boy who was late for school blossomed into a birthday celebration the boy won't soon forget.

Officer Lynema of the Grand Rapids Police Department noticed 9-year-old Thomas Daniel chasing after a school bus early in the morning. After the bus refused to stop, the Officer Lynema offered Thomas a ride to school.

Thomas told the officer that his family did not have a car and accepted the ride after asking his mom.

During their commute, Thomas told the officer that it was his 9th birthday and extended an invite to his party. Thomas reveled that he was often bullied in school and was afraid none of his classmates were going to attend the party.

Thomas's fears were confirmed when no one showed up to his party except his family members and Officer Lynema. Thomas didn't even have a cake.

The next day Officer Lynema and the rest of the Grand Rapids Police force threw Thomas a proper birthday celebration.

When Thomas got off the bus, officers surprised him with a Krispy Kreme Donut cake and a singing quartet.

Thomas was blown away!

"This is the best birthday ever!" he told officers.

Grand Rapids Police Department took to Facebook to let Thomas know to not forget about them next year.

"No kid should get bullied, and no kid should worry if anyone will come to the party. Next year Thomas Daniel, make sure you drop us that invite a little sooner. We wouldn't want to miss it!"
