Officials: 1 resident killed, 3 firefighters injured in Northeast Philly row home fire

One person has died and three firefighters were injured in a row home fire on the 3200 block of Birch Road in Northeast Philadelphia, according to officials.

The fire broke out around 4 p.m. Friday.

Neighbors say two brothers lived at the 2-story home and kept to themselves.

The fire was contained in about an hour, but it took another hour before crews were able to safely pull out a body. It appears a second person remains unaccounted for.

Neighbors described a hoarding situation inside the home.

"With all the papers and all the junk in there, it just got out of control," neighbor Cheyenne Rothermel said.

Officials say the firefighters' injuries are non-life threatening.

No word on a cause of the fire at this time.
