Officials seize estimated $1.7 million in heroin, fentanyl in Kensington drug bust

PHILADELPHIA (FOX 29) - Philadelphia Attorney General Josh Shapiro announced on Thursday the results of a successful operation to thwart a large drug trafficking operation in Kensington.

The joint operation dubbed the "Kensington Initiative," saw 160 officers and agents participate in the execution of search warrants at 13 residences and 15 vehicles.

The narcotics seized by authorities totaled approximately $1.7 million in heroin and fentanyl, and $98,000 worth of crack cocaine.

Police also obtained 3 handguns, $13,000 in cash and drug packaging tools during their search.

Police say that all 11 individuals arrested will be charged with at least one count of corrupt organization, conspiracy possession with intent to deliver narcotics and simple possession .

Officials say that most of the heroin was sold near the 3300 block of Argyle Street, and most of the drug packaging paraphernalia was recovered from a home on Cundiff Street.

"As your Attorney General, I'm listening and I know you want to see these drugs out of your communities, your children be able to walk to school in safety, and your streets free of these poisons," said Attorney General Shapiro.
