Parents and students concerned over spike of violence at local high school
Abington, Pa. (WTXF) Parents and students are concerned about a recent spike of violence inside their school. School officials say in the last five days there have been five fights inside Abington Senior High School.
Videos circulating among parents and students at Abington Senior High School have many families in the district alarmed. Whether every video clip here is genuinely from inside the school is not clear.
In a letter that went home to parents and a statement on their website the district says "There have been no weapons involved" but acknowledged there have been five student fights in recent days.
And despite the #AbingtonFightWeek with postings that have since been removed there was no *organized* fighting inside the school, police say. They tell us the fights, which began last Friday and continued into early this week, were all unrelated.
According to police, one school resource officer was punched, but no one was hurt, criminal charges against students are now being assessed. The situation, police say, is now under control. However, several parents, most of whom didn't want to be identified on camera for the safety of their children, aren't so sure.
The district is asking parents to monitor their kids on social media.
