Parking dispute ends when man is stabbed, critically injured in Spring Garden

PHILADELPHIA (WTXF/AP) -- A parking dispute in Spring Garden ended in a stabbing that left a man critically injured.

Authorities say the 56-year-old victim and a 57-year-old man who knew him started arguing around 12:45 a.m. Sunday after the victim double-parked a vehicle. The incident took place on 21st Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, just steps from the police station in Center City. The argument soon turned physical, and one man used a knife to stab the other twice in the chest.

Two police officers who happened to be nearby heard the victim's screams and ran to the scene. The victim was then taken to a hospital where he was listed in critical condition.

"Fortunately, two police officers did overhear and witness the stabbing and made an immediate arrest and were able to summon medical help for the victim and recover the knife that was used in this brutal assault," Philadelphia police Captain Drew Techner said.The alleged stabber was arrested, but authorities have not released his name or said what charges he's facing. The knife allegedly used in the stabbing was recovered at the scene.
