Payroll error causes city workers to not receive paychecks
PHILADELPHIA (FOX 29) - Dozens of Philadelphia city workers say they not been paid, have been under compensated or have not received a paycheck.
Many of the disgruntled workers are in the city's Department of Prisons.
In a statement, the prison's commissioner acknowledged the payroll error and applauded worker's dedication to their jobs.
Meanwhile, the mayor's office has blamed the problem on a new human resource and payroll system.
"We've seen about 3% of people with errors," said Philadelphia Mayor Chief of Staff, Jim Engler.
"Obviously that is unacceptable to us, but with any new technology system like this we are going to see some level of errors and our goal is to get people paid the full amount they are due as quickly as possible," Engler said.
At the moment, there is no word on when the clerical errors will be fixed.
