PennDOT Prepares For the Storm

PHILADELPHIA (WTXF) It is PennDOT's "time to shine," as so far this winter they have been doing routine maintenance to roads, like patchwork and things like that. But tomorrow, the focus will be on snow, as we take a look inside the PennDOT headquarters, they are monitoring cameras of the roads right now for a dusting of snow.

"My wife said we were shopping like college kids on a weekend," said Chris McDonald. He left Wegmans in King of Prussia Wednesday night with a full shopping cart.

"Hopefully its over hyped and overblown but you never know," said McDonald. He's talking about the snow predicted to hit the area starting Friday. Others are getting ready too.

"A little bit of everything. Lasagne, pasta, milk, cheese, juice and snacks you can have for kids," said Shannon Wyatt.

"I had to get some rock salt and some extra logs and just a few other things because I don't know how long we are going to be holed up in our house in the event that there is snow," said Arnold Sirull.

Nearby at a KOP Walmart we caught Heather Pennington following strict orders.

"My stepfather called and said Heather you need to stop by and get a shovel. We moved like 6 months ago so we had to get a new shovel altogether anyway," she said.

You probably won't need a shovel Thursday morning but PennDot has trucks ready to salt if necessary. Friday may need more planning.

"We will be gearing up our game plan based on what the forecast is telling us. We expect that we are getting snow. It's just a matter of how much and how quickly will it fall," said Gene Blaum with PennDot. He says they plan to have roadways brined a day in advance of Friday's storm.

Trucks will be out 2:30 Thursday morning in Montgomery County. Other counties will likely start after rush hour that morning.
