Philadelphia detective arrested following assault investigation

Philadelphia Police have arrested and charged one of their own detectives following an investigation into an alleged assault.

Detective Adam O'Donnell turned himself into the department's internal affairs unit Wednesday as a result of an investigation into an incident in February of last year.

O'Donnell has been charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, unlawful restraint, obstructing administration of law, and official oppression..

O'Donnell, 43, is a nine year veteran of the department, and is assigned to the Special Victim's Unit.

Commissioner Richard Ross has suspended O'Donnell with intent to dismiss.
