Philadelphia school closings: Delays, cancellations ahead ice, freezing rain Thursday

Philadelphia-area schools have announced delays and closings as the city braces for icy conditions Thursday.

If you have to be on the roads early Thursday morning, proceed with caution.

A winter storm is on the way, bringing snow, sleet and freezing rain to the Delaware Valley over the course of just a few hours on Thursday.

All School District of Philadelphia says schools (including the District’s Early Childhood Centers) and the Constance E. Clayton Education Center (Central Office) will be virtual. 

All after-school activities, including all athletic programs and professional development sessions scheduled for Thursday, are also canceled.

Archdiocesan high school buildings in Philly will be closed, and will utilize a FlexibleParochial. Archdiocesan elementary school buildings in Philly will be closed and these schools will utilize a Flexible Instruction Day on Thursday.

Archdiocesan high schools and parochial elementary schools in the suburban counties usually follow the decision of their corresponding local public school district and submit closure status.
