Philadelphia man charged after video of assaults on 6 unhoused individuals surfaces online

Philadelphia police have arrested and charged a man in a series of assaults they say were captured on video. 

In the videos, police say the suspect could be seen physically assaulting a number of unhoused people on the Fourth of July. 

What we know:

In a press release issued Monday, Philadelphia Police say they were made aware of video posted on social media showing a man yelling at and then assaulting six people who appeared to be unhoused. 

Police later determined the assaults happened on July 4. After further investigation, including police obtaining even more video evidence from the area, police were able to identify the suspect. 

An arrest warrant was issued for Naeem Morgan, 27, who was taken into custody on Monday. 

Morgan has been charged with possessing and instrument of crime, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, disorderly conduct and harassment. 

What we don't know:

Authorities have not released any information about a motive in the attacks. 

The extent of any injuries sustained by the victims is also unknown at this time.
