Philadelphia weather: Snowflakes could accompany wintry mix this week

It won't be anything major, but forecasters are monitoring rounds of precipitation this week that could bring a wintry mix, including snow, to parts of the region.

The icy winter weather will follow a two-day bout of unseasonably warm temperatures on Monday and Tuesday, when forecasters say highs will reach into the 50s.

Clouds will thicken on Wednesday leading to some wet weather on Thursday that could make for a messy morning commute.

What we know:

Temperatures will be unseasonably warm on both Monday and Tuesday, with thermometers in the Philadelphia area set to stretch into the 50s.

Conditions will take a wintry turn by midweek, when clouds thicken and temperatures tumble back into the 30s ahead of a wintry mix on Thursday.

FOX 29's Sue Serio says the Philadelphia-area can expect a wintry mix in the early morning hours to switch over to rain by late morning.

Areas north of Philadelphia, including Trenton through the Poconos, could see some snowflakes from the late-week weather maker.

Another chance of snow near the Philadelphia-area and places north of the city is slated for Saturday morning.

Philadelphia is expected to get a wintry mix in the early afternoon that will change over to all rain by early Sunday morning.

Due to the mixed bag of wintry precipitation, forecasters do not expect much – if any – snow accumulation.

What's next:

Monday appears to be the best weather day of the week, with partly sunny skies and high temperatures in the 50s.

Tuesday will nearly mimic Monday, but with more cloud cover and slightly lower temperatures.
