Photo of Injured Military Dog With Purple Heart Goes Viral

WASHINGTON, DC (FOX NEWS INSIDER) - Hundreds of thousands have been touched by this photo of an injured military dog with a Purple Heart around his neck.

Spc. Andrew Brown and his K-9 companion Rocky were searching for explosives in southern Afghanistan when an IED exploded. Rocky suffered shrapnel wounds and a broken leg.

They were taken taken to a hospital in Germany, where the photo was taken.

Another photo shows the team side by side in good spirits. A statement from the 89th Military Police Brigade says both are doing well.

Brown has since been taken to Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C., while Rocky will return to Fort Hood, Tex., in the coming weeks.

The picture was posted by Fort Hood's 89th Military Police Brigade and had more than 98,000 likes and 129,000 shares as of Monday morning.
