Police: 2-year-old dies after being found unresponsive in Northeast Philadelphia

Raw sadness on the 10000 block of Wilbur Street in Northeast Philadelphia after investigators say a 2-year-old baby girl died. Police sources say the mother allegedly killed the child.

"I begged and believe she would be OK. They won't hurt her. They will care for her," one neighbor who didn't want to be identified.

Investigators say it happened just before 6 p.m. Friday. The child was found unresponsive and rushed to Jefferson-Torresdale Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Neighbors say the mother has a history of mental health issues and they worried about the baby's safety. They tell us the mother was once admitted to Friends Hospital out of safety concerns.

"The husband called me over and over and he say we want to take her out of Friends. I say leave her-- leave her they will care for her," the neighbor said.

The investigation is ongoing.
