Police: 7-year-old girl sexually assaulted in North Philadelphia rooming house

Crime scene investigators and detectives scoured a home on the 2200 block of Sydenham Street Friday afternoon for evidence after investigators say a little girl was sexually assaulted.

According to police, the assault on a 7-year-old girl happened in what neighbors described as a rooming house. Police were trying to identify just who was staying at the home around 4:30 Friday morning when neighbors reported screams and saw a man running from the house.

As word of the attack spread through the neighborhood, many were too afraid to talk on camera, those who did, condemned the crime.

Philadelphia police say they arrested a person of interest on an unrelated charge. The Special Victims Unit is investigating.
