Police: 76-year-old man pushed into water while fishing

The City of Burlington Police Department is investigating after a 76-year-old man was pushed into the water while fishing.

It happened Thursday around 10:30 a.m. and the Riverfront Promenade.

The initial investigation discovered that the victim was fishing along the Riverfront Promenade. Police say a man walked by the victim speaking to himself and then later yelling towards the river. At some point, the man came behind the victim, grabbed him and threw him into the river. Witnesses were able to rescue the victim along with first responders.

Witnesses described the man as between 20-30 years old, tall, thin build, wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt and a tan jacket

The victim, a 76-year-old man from Riverside, NJ, sustained a fractured shoulder, was treated at Lourdes Medical Center, Willingboro Campus and has since been released.

Police say a person of interest is in custody for questioning. No charges have been filed.
