Police Arrest Woman in 30-Year-Old Cold Case Murder

DALTON, Ga. - Dalton Police have arrested a woman in connection with a 30-year-old cold case murder.

According to a news release from the Dalton Police Department, investigators charged Sandra Marion Hartzag, 50, with being a fugitive from justice after Delaware detectives charged her with the cold case murder.

On July 1, 1985, Joseph Braun was murdered in New Castle County, Delaware. Police said one man suspected in the killing was never charged because he died in 1997.

New Castle County investigators linked Hartzag to the murder and have been searching for her. They got word that she was in the Dalton area.

Dalton investigators found Hartzag in a homeless camp and brought her in for questioning on Wednesday, along with two cold case investigators from Delaware. New Castle investigators have obtained a warrant for her arrest and Dalton Police charged her on a fugitive from justice warrant to hold her until arrangements can be made for her to return to Delaware.

Hartzag has also been charged with robbery and possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony. She's being held in the Whitfield County jail as she awaits extradition back to Delaware.
