Police cruiser crashes into iconic Folcroft cheesesteak shop

If you're thinking about stopping by the iconic Leo's Steak Shop in Folcroft for a cheesesteak like Wendell Cheek was Tuesday evening, you'll have to change your plans.

The popular eatery at the corner of Chester Pike and Burton Lane is temporarily closed after a police cruiser crashed into the building Saturday night.

Folcroft police say a Sharon Hill police officer was responding to a call with his lights and sirens on when a car making a left hand turn pulled out in front of him. The officer's car crashed through some planters and into the cinder block front wall of the shop, which caused some serious cracks and closed the shop down for now.

No one inside the shop was hurt. The officer was hospitalized briefly for evaluation and released.
