Police: Driver Killed After Losing Control of Car in West Philly

PHILADELPHIA (WTXF) Police say a man was killed after he lost control of his vehicle in West Philadelphia.

The accident happened around 5:50 p.m. Wednesday at Cobbs Creek and Whitby Avenue.

According to police, a 2004 Chrysler Sebring, operated by a 61-year-old male, was traveling southbound on Cobbs Creek Parkway, and for some unknown reason the driver lost control of his vehicle. Police say the car crossed into the northbound lane and mounted the curb, striking the guardrail.

Police say the car was then struck on the passenger side by a Ford E350 SEPTA Connect Bus (Paratransit).

The operator of the car was transported to Presbyterian Hospital and was pronounced at 6:32 p.m., according to police. The driver's identity has not been released at this time. The passenger in the car, a 85-year-old female is receiving treatment for hand pain. Another passenger in the car, a 75-year-old male was taken to the hospital for observations. The bus operator, a 33-year-old male, is being treated for back pain.

The investigation is ongoing with the Accident Investigation District
