Police investigate homicide in Mill Creek

Police are investigating a homicide in West Philadelphia's Mill Creek neighborhood.

Neighbors on the 4500 block of Merion Avenue woke up first thing Thursday morning to nearly 3 dozen shell casings littering the street and sidewalk where 29-year-old Terrell Shields was shot to death.

"It's unacceptable anywhere, anytime for this to happen," Homicide Unit Captain John Ryan saod/

Homicide and crime scene investigators arrived to find a Chevy Impala with Louisiana tags riddled with gunfire. At least four shots also crashed into the home belonging to the victim who neighbors say just got married four months ago.

"He was getting into the car or out of the car. We really haven't determined that yet," Captain Ryan said

It happened three blocks from a school. Neighbors heard the shots and came away from the shooting scene shaking their heads over the level of violence displayed here.

Police believe there were two gunmen. They found two different caliber shell casings. They have no motive for the murder and no weapons were recovered at the scene. At least two bullets were found inside the home.

Family members arrived on the scene but did not want to speak. Police say no one inside the house that was struck by gunfire was injured.

Homicide detectives continue to investigate.
