Police investigate serious crash involving pedestrian
NEWARK, Del. (WTXF) - Police are investigating after a serious crash involving a pedestrian.
The incident happened around 7:00 p.m. on Friday on Library Avenue in Newark, Delaware.
Police say a Nissan Altima, operated by a 35-year-old woman, crossed through the intersection of Library Avenue and Wyoming Road when a 24-year-old female was walking across the lane of Library Avenue. The pedestrian was about 20 feet south of the intersection and was not in the crosswalk. As the operator drove through the intersection, she struck the pedestrian in the southbound lane.
The pedestrian was transported to an area hospital and is currently in critical condition undergoing treatment.
Officials say the operator of the Altima remained at the scene and they do not believe impairment was a factor in the crash.
