Police: Man arrested after eluding police and breaking into Kensington home
PHILADELPHIA (WTXF) - Police say a man was arrested after eluding police and breaking into Kensington home to hide.
"They said they could fix it," said a 25-year-old woman as she shows us where police were forced to break down the front door of her home on East Monmouth Street in Kensington this afternoon. Police say a man who they believe had just shot a 20-year old in the groin ran into the house trying to elude police.
"Me and my mom was upstairs sleeping and all we heard was a big bang."
The young woman says her 10-year old nephew had just come in the house when the suspect followed him in and struggled with the boy who then allegedly bit the guy.
"He bit him to try and get him off of him and after my nephew bit him he left. He escaped through the back," she said. Police say this all started at Kensington and Cambria Streets where they say the suspect fired shots before ditching the gun and running into the house behind the 10-year old. The suspect left that house and police say entered another home down the block. They caught him leaving out.
"Witnesses also say this perpetrator threw a handgun in the 1800 block of Monmouth. Police went into the vacant lot covered in weeds and shrubs and found a semi-automatic handgun."
The victim of the shooting is at Temple Hospital in stable condition. The suspect is in custody. No motive yet for the shooting.
