Police: Man charged with murder in 1981 Bucks County cold case

Police in Warrington Township have charged a 76-year-old man with the murder of his wife in a 1981 Bucks County cold case.

Authorities detained William Walter Korzon near his home in York County Thursday and charged him with murder, manslaughter and three other crimes relating to the death and disappearance of his wife, Gloria Korzon.

Police say they reopened the case in 2016 and bit by bit they were able to gather new eveidence connecting Korzon to his late wife's disappearance and murder.

According to court documents, Korzon brutally and physically abused his wife beginning a year after their marriage in 1967.

Warrington police say they responded to numerous domestic violence incidents at the home where the couple lived, but never had proof that Korzon killed his wife.

Now, police hope that new investigative leads will bring a conclusion to the nearly 40 year old mystery.

"There's a great deal of circumstantial evidence of her homicide, there's also deception by Korzon about his wife's demise and profiteering from her death," said Bucks County District Attorney, Matt Weintraub.

Officials say they have not found Gloria's remains, but will proceed with the prosecution.

"Does this make a case more difficult, yes, we had hope to locate her body and to have brought it back to her family," said Weintraub.

Meanwhile, Korzon has maintained his innocence.

Police say Korzon was also accused of trying to hire a man to kill a detective investigating the case years ago.
