Police: Newborn Baby Girl Found Abandoned in SW Atlanta

ATLANTA -(WAGA)- A newborn baby was found abandoned in southwest Atlanta on Monday.

Investigators said the girl, who is just hours old, was discovered on Harlan Road outside a home around 6:30 Monday evening. Atlanta police said detectives are calling her "Baby Harlan."

The family who lives at the house told police when they returned home she was on a chair on the front porch. They told investigators they didn't witness the baby being left and don't know who she could belong to.

The baby was found with the umbilical cord attached and she was wrapped in a pink Hello Kitty blanket, according to police.

One of the family members who found Baby Harlan said they left the home around 5:30 p.m. on Monday and returned approximately one hour later.

Baby Harlan was taken to Scottish Rite Hospital alert, conscious and breathing.

Police said their main focus right now is to find the baby's mother to make sure she has received proper medical treatment.
