Police release photo of disturbing sign in Falls Township

Falls Township, Pa. (WTXF) A sign posted on the side of the road in Falls Township angered at least one local resident and has police wondering if the sign was a poor example of a prank or a serious threat?

The signs reads, "ONLY GOOD COP-IS A DEAD COP....."

After seeing the sign Mike Volb flagged down an officer and the two of them removed the sign. Volb said the sign really bothered him because that's not how residents feel about local police.

The sign gained additional exposure when police posted it to Facebook and challenged whoever did it to come and have a face-to-face discussion. Although the tone was stern police tell FOX 29 it was about getting the suspect off the street and any help they may need.

The discussion on social media centers around whether anyone should face charges for the strong words on the sign. Police told FOX 29 even though initially no one was hurt; they are not downplaying the incident.

Falls Township Police Lt. Henry Ward had strong words after the sign was found:

"I would like to challenge the person or persons who made and hung the sign to stop into the Police Dept and speak to us. I know whoever did this did it out of ignorance.

I would like to sit down with them and show them what we do as Police Officers so they can base their opinion on facts and not ignorance. I doubt they will do this because they hung the sign in the middle of the night like a true coward that I think they are. But prove me wrong and lets get together maybe we can learn something from each other.

I want to stress this is America and anyone is well within their rights to hold such an opinion, but I find it ironic that whoever did this did it on the anniversary of D-Day when thousands of young Americans died to make sure an idiot or idiots like this can express their opinions."
