Police search for driver in fatal hit-and-run

Police are searching for the driver who fatally struck a pedestrian then fled the scene just after midnight on Saturday.

According to police, a silver 2005 Chevy Cavalier was traveling eastbound on Lehigh Avenue when they struck the unidentified female pedestrian. The pedestrian was walking northbound in the designated crosswalk on Front Street.

The impact caused her to spin around and fall, striking her head on the ground. She was taken to the hospital with severe head trauma and pronounced dead at 1:37 A.M.

Police say the driver side mirror was broken off and left at the scene. It contains the part information belonging to a 2005 Chevy Cavalier.

The car continued eastbound on Lehigh Avenue after the crash, police say. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Philadelphia police at 215-686-3128.
