Police search for gunman in Juniata Park shooting
PHILADELPHIA (WTXF) Police are investigating a shooting that left a man dead in Juniata Park.
Police say 19-year-old Miguel Colon was gunned down in his SUV Wednesday afternoon just blocks from his home.
"I want people to realize they took my son's life today," his mother said.
It happened in the 4000 block of Howland Street in Juniata Park. Neighbors heard a burst of gunfire and came out to find a Colon shot behind the wheel of his SUV right in the middle of the block. He died a half an hour later. Leaving behind his son, his father and mother, as well as two sisters
Police say Colon had just pulled onto the block. For some unknown reason, he stopped mid-block. Detectives say his window was down when the gunman approached and opened fire. Three shots struck the victim in the head, the arm and the chest, according to police.
Several neighbors heard the shots. They were stunned by the murder. There are lots of children living on the block and a local daycare is located a few doors away from the shooting scene.
Crime scene investigators checked the street for shell casings, but found none. No weapon was recovered. Homicide detectives found several surveillance cameras on the street. Colon's father is hoping the cameras captured a shot of his son's killer.
