Police Search for Man Accused of Striking Officer with Car

SOUTH PHILADELPHIA (WTXF)- A Philadelphia police officer is recovering after being struck by a car. Police say they are searching for 26-year-old Maurice Taylor in connection with the incident.

This happened on Monday, December 14th around 6:40p.m. at S. 27th St and Sears St. in Point Breeze.

Officials tell FOX 29 the officer was struck by a suspect's silver 2003 Volkswagen Passat. That police officer has been placed in stable condition.

According to police, they were called to Point Breeze on a weapons call. When police came to the area witnesses spotted a suspect who hopped into a car -- the Volkswagen Passat -- and took off, according to investigators.

Police say the man drove the wrong way on Sears Street, a one-way street, and struck an officer who was out of his car investigating the incident.

Witnesses assisted the officer, applying pressure to his bleeding head. They also retrieved his gun and radio that were both knocked out of his holster.

The suspect's car was located at 22nd and Ellsworth. He ran away, but left behind an 18-year-old woman and and an 11-year-old boy in his car, according to police. They were questioned by police as they search for the driver.

The 26-year-old officer has been on the force for two years. He sustained a broken leg, shattered kneecap, and head injuries. He is in stable condition at Jefferson.
