Police: South Philly Store Owner Shoots Would-Be Robber
PHILADELPHIA (WTXF) One man is dead and another is in police custody after police say the owner of Ms. Jessie's Stop N Shop tried to defend himself against would-be robbers.
According to police, the attempted robbery and shooting happened around 8:30 a.m. Monday. One other suspect was taken into custody and the store owner was brought in for questioning.
Louise Hanible who is a self-described community activist says the store owner is well-known.
"They've been in the neighborhood all their lives and had businesses and restaurants in the neighborhood," she told FOX 29.
Police say two guns were recovered from the scene. It's unclear if the weapon that was fired belonged to the suspects or the shop owner.
