Police: Suspect in Wawa shooting gunned down mother of his child

Police in Delaware County say a man shot and killed the mother of his child inside a Radnor Township Wawa Thursday night.

According to police, Brian Kennedy, 34, walked into the Wawa on Sugartown Road and shot the woman multiple time with an AR-15 rifle.

The woman was the mother of Kennedy's child, police confirmed in a press conference Friday.

The child, police say, was not with the mother at the time of the shooting.

Officers took Kennedy, a Wayne resident, into custody several hours after the shooting in Glen Mills.

He was taken to the hospital for evaluation. As of Friday morning, Kennedy is still at the hospital.

Police say he was not harmed during the arrest.

Kennedy will be released to the Radnor Township Police Department where investigators will get thier first chance to interview him.

Radnor Township Police Superintendent, Christopher Flanagan revealed that Kennedy had been arrested before, but failed to share the details of that arrest.

Kennedy has been charged with criminal homicide, first degree murder and third degree murder among other charges.

Police have recovered the rifle used in the shooting as well as Kennedy's vehicle.

Other customers were inside the Wawa at the time of the shooting, but no further injuries were reported.
