Police: Woman, 62, found dead in Berwyn home

Authorities in Chester County are investigating what lead to the death of a 62-year-old woman.

Denise Barger, of Berwyn, was found dead in her home on the 900 block of Heatherstone Drive by a family member who was checking on her early Friday morning.

Detectives from the Chester County District Attorney's office were back at the scene Monday going over clues left behind by whoever may have beaten the recently widowed woman to death.

Neighbors say Barger lived alone in the expansive home along Heatherstone Drive after her husband died of a heart attack in March. She'd recently sold the property and planned to downsize days before her body was found.

Friends say she was friendly and loved her dog. Tredyffrin Township police say the cause of death was blunt force trauma.

People were reluctant to speak on camera fearing whoever did this may still be out there. Women in the neighborhood say they've started looking out for one another.

Meanwhile, outside Barger's home a ribbon of crime scene tape fluttering on the front lawn--the only outside indicator of a life violently interrupted.

Neighbors tell us the block where this happened is hard to get to. It's set back from the road with only a few access points. Police and the DA would not comment on the case tonight.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to contact Chester County Detectives at 610-344-6866 or the Tredyffrin Police Department at 610-644-3221.
