WOODBRIDGE, N.J. (AP) -- New Jersey state police say a woman driving the wrong way on the Garden State Parkway was killed when her car collided with another vehicle.

The crash occurred around 11 p.m. Sunday.

State police say 23-year-old Shannon Whooley, of Woodbridge, was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes when the collision occurred near milepost 128.7 in Woodbridge. She was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

The driver of the other car was seriously injured and was being treated at a hospital. His name has not been disclosed.

Both drivers were alone in their vehicles at the time.

Officials say it's not yet known why Whooley was driving the wrong way on the highway.
