Police: Yeadon man bludgeoned, stabbed dad, left body on road

YEADON, Pa. (AP/WTXF) -- Authorities say a Pennsylvania man fatally bludgeoned and stabbed his father, then tried to dismember him before leaving his body on a rural road.

Robert Coult III is charged with murder, abuse of a corpse and related offenses. The 30-year-old Yeadon man was arrested late Sunday, a day after Robert Coult Jr.'s body was found near a golf course on the 1600 block of Springmill Road in Montgomery County.

Authorities say the men argued early Friday over a small sum of money, then resumed the dispute hours later when they returned home. The suspect told investigators that his father pushed him down some stairs. The younger Coult then allegedly hit his father over the head multiple times with a hammer, then repeatedly stabbed him with a knife.

Coult told investigators he tried to dismember the body with an electric saw and, when that wasn't successful, spent hours getting the body into his SUV.

"Literally, appearing to be alive as in he's seat belting him in and putting his head up against the head rest. Nobody would know from looking at the car that the individual was deceased," said Montgomery County District Attorney Katayoun Copeland.

Eventually, Coult dumped his father's body miles away, trashed the evidence in some dumpsters and cleaned the mess at home, authorities said. Hours later, he allegedly played video games with the unsuspecting boyfriend of a roommate who lived with the father and son.

Coult, who was remanded to Delaware County Prison, could face a life term if convicted. No bail has been set. A preliminary hearing is slated for September 25.
