Powerball Rises to $1.4 Billion

The record Powerball jackpot has risen to $1.4 billion, or an $868 million cash payout.

The next drawing is Wednesday night.

The number had risen to $1.3 billion over the weekend, as there were no winners in Saturday's drawing, and the number was raised again Monday due to strong ticket sales in participating states.

Seven winning tickets for $150,000 were sold in Pennsylvania in the last drawing, the Pennsylvania Lottery said, but none of them were in the Philadelphia area.

Meanwhile, 29 people in New Jersey won $50,000 each in the weekend's drawing.

"Congratulations to all our winners in Saturday's Powerball drawing," Pennsylvania Lottery Executive Director Drew Svitko said in a statement. "As we get ready for Wednesday's drawing, we want to remind players to please play responsibly because it only takes one ticket to win."
