Principal returns to Padua Academy after controversial firing

A popular principal in New Castle County is back on the job and will address her school Monday morning following her controversial dismissal.

After nearly a month off the job, Cindy Mann is back at Padua Academy.

Immediately following the abrupt March 16th dismissal, students, parents, alumni and former staff rallied behind Mann, holding events on school grounds urging her reinstatement.

Initially, the archdiocese of Wilmington would not comment on why Mann was fired. A statement issued at the end of March, however, explained that she has been reinstated, saying in part "it was in the best interest of Padua Academy and its students - a decision that was made in the hope that Mrs. Mann and [the pastor] can work together for the benefit of both parties."

Students explained Mann's presence is engrained in the fabric of the school community.

Monday marks the school's return from spring break, as well as the first day back for Mann.

After finishing out the school year, church leaders say they plan negotiate a contract with Mann that could last two years.
