Severe thunderstorms and downpours are hitting the area Monday. The system has the potential to bring down trees, and is also bringing a chance of hail to the area as it moves in.

FOX 29 Meteorologist Scott Williams warns the incoming system could bring wind gusts of more than 60 mph.

Downpours could be accompanied by severe lightning as the heat and humidity fuel some of the storms moving through the area.

Along with scattered severe thunderstorm watches and warnings in the north and west, a flash flood watch will remain in effect until later this evening, and could leave us with some ponding on the roads.

The main time frame for this system should fall between 4:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. with the heaviest rainfall coming during the evening rush hour.

Some areas could see as much as 1-3 inches of rain.
