Souderton Man Charged With Homicide by Vehicle While DUI

Montgomery County and Horsham Township have announced charges against a Sounderton man who they say caused the death of his friend while driving under the influence in late December.

Corey Adam Mitchell, 26, of Souderton has been charged with Homicide by Vehicle while Driving Under the Influence and related offenses in the death of his friend Erik Detweiler, 25.

Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin R. Steele and Horsham Township Police Chief William Daly announced the charges.

The two-vehicle accident took place at 2:12 a.m. on December 27, at the intersection of County Line Road and Easton Road. The car driven by Mitchell, in which Detweiler was a passenger, collided with a tractor-trailer, after Mitchell ran a red light and drove into the path of the tractor-trailer.

The investigation found that Mitchell was driving with headlights off, and that he had a blood-alcohol concentration of .154%, as well as the presence of marijuana.
