South Jersey Escaped Prisoner Captured In Philadelphia

HAMMONTON, NJ (WTXF) - Authorities have located a prisoner they say escaped from custody in Winslow Township, New Jersey Saturday morning.

WInslow Township Police say Panagioti Souris, 43, escaped from Bayside State Prison on the grounds of Ancora State Hospital on Spring Garden Road, and was believed to still be in the area.

Authorities say he was captured on the corner of 6th and Market Streets at around 4 p.m. Saturday. The New Jersey Department of Corrections Special Investigations Division, and the Philadelphia Police Department were on scene.

Souris surrendored peacefully. He is currently in custody of the Philadelphia Police Department and an extradition hearing is pending.

Souris was previously a minimum custody inmate and was held in Ancora Hospital for drug issues, according to corrections officials.
