State Police: 2 teens killed, another injured in Quakertown crash
QUAKERTOWN, Pa. (FOX 29) - Two teenagers have died, and a third was injured following a crash on a Bucks County highway Sunday night, according to Pennsylvania State Police.
Police say the single-vehicle crash occurred on Route 663 in Quakertown just before 5:30 p.m.
The 17-year-old driver survived. He's in critical condition.
"My heart dropped, my stomach dropped, everything dropped and I got so nervous. Worried really. I hoped it wasn't them," Don States said.
Tragically, it was Don States' friends and Dairy Queen co-workers Michelle Goodwin and Danny Pierson, both 18-years-old.
They were killed when police say a pickup driven by their 17-year-old friend, ran off Route 663 in Sunday night's snowstorm, slamming into a tree in Milford Township.
"I started calling and nobody was answering. I was really worried," said friend and D.Q. co-worker Kelly Friedman.
Friedman may have been the last person to see the three buddies leaving work in Pennsburg on the way to grab a snack.
"They have one seat in the front and they all squished into the front," Friedman added.
State police investigators were back on the scene in daylight collecting items, finishing up reconstructing and analyzing how the crash may have happened.
"Does it even seem real to you?" asked Fox 29's Joyce Evans.
"No, not at all," replied Don States.
"Your heart must have dropped," Evans said to Dairy Queen owner Bob Morrone.
"Yeah, it did. It still is," replied Morrone.
Morrone, still feeling emotional, says his young employees are like his own kids. He's lost two of them at once. Yet, that isn't the only heartbreak.
"It's not only the two, but we employ the brother and the sister of each," Morrone stated.
"Don't know anything to do except just be there for them. It's hard for the parents. We're praying for them. It's so tough. There are not words," explained D.Q. co-owner Brenda Morrone.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
