Students from charter school robbed in Wissinoming

PHILADELPHIA (WTXF) - Three students from the same school were mugged on the same street on Tuesday.

Freshman girls at Tacony Academy Charter High School in Wissinoming are sticking together as they make their way to the SEPTA bus stop on Torresdale Avenue after school.

News that several students were robbed of their cell phones on Tuesday has the teens feeling uneasy.

Police say a student walking to school from the bus stop at 8 a.m. Tuesday morning was approached from behind and ordered to hand over his iPhone 6 by a man claiming to have a gun. The same morning, second student the victim of an attempted robbery. On Tuesday, afternoon police say a third student was attacked by two males who stole his iPhone. They got away down Levick Street.

Tacony Academy High posted a warning on its website and encouraged teens on its Facebook page to take out the earbuds and put away their phones walking to and from school.
