Subway rider gives barefoot, homeless woman shoes off her feet
TAMPA (FOX 13) - At a time when terror could very well get us down, hope in humanity lives on.
Small acts of kindness, like one that's gone viral out of New York City, prove that love and compassion are still very much alive in this world.
The giver in this scenario is a young woman named Kay Brown. The recipient: a homeless, mentally handicapped woman.
The two met on a subway, when Brown couldn't help but notice that the woman had no shoes on her feet. She'd been walking the chilly streets of New York City for who knows how long, until Brown decided that had to change.
"I asked her what shoe size she wore and we were the same," said Brown on her Facebook page. "I gave her the shoes off my feet and they fit perfectly. She couldn't have been more gracious."
Brown then snapped a photo of her own feet, mismatched socks and all, and says rode the subway like that for 15 minutes, before another act of kindness made her story that much better.
"…right before I got off the subway a gentleman offered me an extra pair of socks to go over top of my small thin ones," Brown's Facebook post continued.
Brown ended up getting off the subway and walking the remaining six blocks home in socks. She says she received strange looks and overheard comments about her, but it was all worth it.
"It's the middle of November and she has no where to go, so the least I could do is give her a pair of shoes," she wrote. "…Now she's able to wear a pair of shoes each day, and suffer a little less."
