Suspect accused of killing wife, mother-in-law in custody

PHILADELPHIA (AP/WTXF) -- Police say the man responsible for fatally shooting his wife and mother-in-law is in custody.

The incident took place Friday evening in Northeast Philadelphia.

A police spokesman says a 42-year-old woman, the suspect's wife, was shot in the back of the head around 7:30 p.m. on the 3400 block of Chippendale Ave in Holmesburg. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 71-year-old woman, the woman's mother, was also shot in the head and was pronounced dead shortly after 8 p.m. at Aria Jefferson Health Torresdale.

A man fled the scene in a silver sport utility vehicle but was apprehended in Lower Moreland Township. The suspect, upon exiting his vehicle, allegedly had a handgun pointed in the officers' direction. At that point, all four officers discharged their firearms, striking the suspect.

The suspect re-entered his vehicle, and he was subsequently arrested at the scene.

He is currently in stable condition at Abington Hospital.

The names of the victims haven't been released.
