Suspect arrested in Union League staircase theft
CENTER CITY (WTXF) - Philadelphia Police say they have arrested a man in connection with the theft of a brass railing from the Union League Staircase in South Philadelphia.
Police have identified 50-year-old Reginald Phillips as the suspect in the October 24 th theft, issued a warrant is out for his arrest.
Investigators determined Phillips was the suspect in the case after viewing surveillance footage from the incident. Authorities later discovered that Phillips had scrapped the brass railing at a local scrap yard, and a piece of the railing was recovered.
The damage to the Union League staircase is estimated to cost about $100,000.
Phillips is charged with criminal mischief, theft and related offenses.
