Suspect in custody after man stabbed to death in Rittenhouse Square

A suspect has been arrested following a stabbing that left one man dead in Rittenhouse Square.

Police have confirmed that 40-year-old Steven E. Simminger from the unit block of State Road in Media, PA has been charged with murder and related offenses in the stabbing death of 24-year-old Clin McGovern.

The incident occurred outside at 1830 Rittenhouse Square at 3:04 a.m. Sunday.

According to officials, a suspect is in custody, but officials charges have not been approved at this point.

Police say they received a call for a person with a weapon and a stabbing on the highway at the location.

When officers arrived, they found the victim, a 24-year-old white male, lying on the sidewalk outside of the location bleeding from the stomach.

CPR was administered until medics arrived.

The victim was taken to Hahnemann Hospital where he was pronounced at 3:36 a.m.

Witnesses told police that the victim and the suspect may have had an argument when the suspect stabbed the victim in the stomach.

Police determined during the preliminary investigation that the victim and his friend were involved in a verbal altercation with Simminger over Simminger wearing an NJ Devils baseball cap which escalated into a physical altercation.
