Suspect sought after child jumps out of car during carjacking

Delaware State Police have released video of a suspect they say was involved in a parking lot carjacking in hopes of identifying the suspect.

The incident occurred around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday morning at the Wawa on the 2600 block of Philadelphia Pike in Claymont.

The victim, a 29-year-old woman, was driving the vehicle with her 6-year-old son in the backseat, and parked in a spot near the front door of the store. The woman turned off the car, leaving her keys and son behind while she ran into the store to buy something.

While the victim waited for her order, she noticed the female suspect watching her, and had noticed the same woman on the front sidewalk of the store when she walked in.

A short time after the noticed the suspect, police say the suspect walked out of the store, entered victim's vehicle, and drove away.

When the suspect entered the car, the 6-year-old boy quickly realized it was not his mother in the car, and he got out of the car and ran into the store without harm.

The suspect was described as a white female, between the ages of 25 and 35, with a large build, and long brown hair.

The vehicle was described as a silver 2008 Hyundai Sonata, with Delaware plates 245559. The car also had an Uber sticker on the rear window.

Anyone with information about the incident or suspect is asked to call police.

A GoFundMe has been started for the victim to raise funds for a new car.
