Suspect sought in Frankford fatal hit-and-run

Police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run collision in Frankford on Saturday morning.

According to authorities, the incident happened on the 5300 block of Saul Street. Police say the hit-and-run occured overnight, but was not discovered until a neighbor found the victim lying in the road shortly after 6:00 a.m.

Neighbor Nicole Leone walked by the scene on her way to work.

"It's very surprising. It's very surprising to hear that somebody died on the block," Leone said.

First responders rushed the 36-year-old man to Hahnemann University Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Because of his injuries and the way his body was positioned in the street, responding officers determined he was apparently killed during a hit and run.

"I mean, it doesn't hurt to stop. Check on the person. Call the cops. If it was an accident, it was an accident," Leone added.

"A heartless person. A very heartless person," said Lawrence Camp.

Officers with the city's Accident Investigation Division later went door-to-door looking for witnesses or surveillance video.

There's lots of cameras around here, so hopefully somebody picked them up and hopefully, somebody sees them," stated Camp. "People have families. You don't know if he had a family, if he had a daughter or a son he was on his way home to. He could have been working. It's just sad sometimes out here."

Police do not have a description of the vehicle at this time. Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call Philadelphia Police.
