Teen arrested in deadly Easter Sunday shooting on South Street

Police have arrested and charged a teen in connection with an Easter Sunday murder in South Philadelphia.

Zahmir White, 18, was taken into custody on Wednesday morning on the 400 block of North Wilton Street.

White is facing a number of charges, including murder, in the shooting death of 16-year-old William Bethel back on April 1.

On the day of the shooting, officers responded to the 800 block of South Street and found Bethel, a Roxborough resident, suffering from a gunshot wound to his pelvis. Bethel was taken to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries a few days later.

Bethel, a Boys' Latin Charter School student, was on the honor roll, played football, basketball, and participated in boxing.

White was also charged with possessing an instrument of crime, and firearms violations.
