Teen charged in crash that killed school superintendent

A teenager is now charged with hitting and killing Robbinsville School Superintendent Dr. Steven J. Mayer and his dog, and then leaving the scene.

The crash happened on the morning of April 19 on Robbinsville-Edinburg Road, just north of the Pond Road intersection. It took more than two months for the investigation to be completed.

Thursday, the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office and Robbinsville police charged the 18-year-old with death by auto and leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident resulting in death. Both are second-degree offenses.

The suspect was also issued citations for reckless driving, improper use of a cell phone while driving and leaving the scene of an accident.

The teen's name is being withheld because she was underage at the time of the offense.

A court date has not been set and juvenile hearings are not open to the public.
